Canella Hostal
For the Spring/Summer 2016 season, Daphne started an exciting journey to design Canella Hostal's inaugural menswear capsule collection. Drawing inspiration from the theme of war, Daphne sought to infuse elements of peace and paradise, evoking a sense of tranquility amidst chaos. Delving into rare World War II photographs captured on the Atoll of Tawara, nestled in the Pacific Ocean's Gilbert Islands, Daphne was captivated by the juxtaposition of conflict and serenity. Translating this essence into her designs, she curated a collection that juxtaposed military staples like cargo pants and trench coats with vibrant tropical prints and stripes, a nod to the American flag. Infusing sharp military cuts with playful details such as safari pockets and patches,
Daphne brought new life into classic silhouettes.
Collaborating closely with Canella, Daphne selected fabrics like cotton slub, twill and thick jersey, staying true to the original military aesthetic while infusing her signature playful touch. Additionally, she took on the task of creating accessories for the fashion show, crafting a rolltop backpack that seamlessly blended textiles from the collection with durable tarpaulin,
inspired by the modular and waterproof nature of military gear.
Throughout the process, Daphne played a role in pattern development, ensuring each garment reflected her creative vision. While sampling and production were entrusted to Canella's skilled team of tailors and seamstresses, Daphne's attention to detail and innovative design approach laid the foundation for a successful collection launch.
